Beast 1.2 Instructions
======================
(Use Monaco or Courier font to view)
You find yourself trapped in a room filled with huge blocks which slide
effortlessly, at the slightest touch. Suddenly, from out of nowhere pops
a huge, hairy beast that looks like a refugee from some long-dead video
game. You run for your life, scattering blocks before you. Walls shift
and change, with the beasts dodging around them, hot on your trail. Welcome
to Beast!
Beast is a simple little game. The object is to push blocks around on the
screen, trapping all the Beasties so they have no free space to move to.
You drive your man (the little guy with the hat) by using the keyboard
keys I,J,K, and L as shown below:

SPACE BAR drops Glue
The beasts have an advantage over you. They can move diagonally, so be
sure that you close off diagonal paths too when building walls.
Program Features
================
Beast is Multifinder compatible and should run on ALL Macs. It requires
less than 64k of memory to run. Be careful when playing under MultiFinder,
since moving the program to the background allows the beasts to keep
moving towards you! Use Pause to stop play temporarily.
NEW FEATURES FOR VERSION 1.2:
Version 1.2 of Beast adds "beast glue." Pressing the space bar will leave
a puddle of glue behind when you move away. This glue will only stick to
beasts and holds them for a few seconds (between 0 and 15). If you run
through it, or push a block through it, it will disappear. You have a fixed
amount of glue that you can drop, so don't get too dependent on it.
Also, the beasts are a little smarter in 1.2, and change facial expressions
when they are trapped.

The number of beasts, their speed, and the density of blocks in the room
can be adjusted from the Settings option under the File menu. The speed
of the monsters is specified in 60th's of a second intervals. The bigger
the number, the slower the beasts. If you want the beasts to move once every
2 seconds (REALLY Slow!!!) set the delay to 120 (2*60), for example. The
new entry for Glue Stickiness uses the same time units as Beast Delay. If
you want the glue to hold a beast for ten seconds, enter "600" (10*60).
The block density describes how many random blocks will be generated in the
room. The higher the number, the fewer blocks available for building walls.
A density value of 5 means that there's a 1 in 5 chance that a block will
populate a given space.
Beast creates a small (1k) file in your system folder called
"Beast Game Settings" that contains the last settings you supplied in
the Settings dialog. This allows you to configure Beast for a level of
play you are comfortable with.
Note that changing some of the Settings while a game is in progress can
have some interesting results!
Virus Info
==========
Beast is virus-free as distributed. There are no self-modifying features
of the program file. The size of Beast 1.2, as distributed is 20,072 bytes.
You can check this value from the Get Info function in the Finder. If this
value changes, there is a good chance that something or someone has
modified your version of Beast.

Zippy is a Talking Moose-like program for use under Multifinder. Zippy
will speak phrases you supply at random intervals. Zippy is completely
configurable, allowing you to change the picture used for his face, etc.
MacPhone
--------
This is an AppleTalk telephone. It supports multiple zones and all Macs. It
allows two users on Appletalk to carry on a conversation. Supports Multifinder
and operates as a message service in the background.
HyperComm
---------
HyperComm is a collection of HyperCard XCMDs that allow HyperCard stacks to
communicate over the Mac's serial ports. It supports baud rates from 300 to
19.2k, send, receive, and serial port configuration.
PopUpMenus
----------
A XFCN for HyperCard that provides PopUp menus for stacks. This is one of the
few PopUp XCMDs that works with large screen Macs.
